Why Domino's and Ford Have a Mutual Interest in Self-Driving Cars

People don't order food the way they used to—especially in cities. While ordering a pizza for delivery from the local pizza place has been common for years, more and more people are ordering their groceries online.

Ford knows that both revenue in food delivery, and demand for drivers, is going up—and Ford wants in. Self-driving cars could be a practical solution, helping delivery companies to meet demand while giving Ford a market for their technology.

This month, a fully-autonomous Fusion Hybrid will be making Domino's Pizza deliveries in the city of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

"As we increase our understanding of the business opportunity for self-driving vehicles to support the movement of people and goods, we're pleased to have Domino's join us in this important part of the development process," said Sherif Marakby, Ford Vice President, Autonomous and Electric Vehicles. "As a company focused on the customer experience, Domino's shares our vision for a future enabled by smart vehicles in a smart environment that enhance people's lives."
